The Genieve Shelter cares for our community's victims of domestic violence. Most people in need of this service are forced to leave their homes with the clothes on their backs and little else. It is therefore, no surprise that many families return to their abuser, who has made them believe that they cannot survive without him/her. What the family needs to know is that there are people who believe in them. A quilt is such a simple thing and not at all a cure. However, if a parent is given a quilt for their child, at such a traumatic time, and that child gets some comfort from it, that might be a turning point for that parent. Sometimes, it is the simplest things in life that awaken us!

We have decided to start making these quilts for the children. Later, we may be able to add quilts for the parents as well. We are accepting all quilting materials. Do you have a block/s you made and have no idea what you will ever do with them? A quilt top made, but yet to be quilted, that doesn't appeal anymore. Fabric scraps that are just too good to throw away? Fabric that looked sooooo good when you bought it and now you wonder why? Left over batting? Or small finished quilts to donate? Cash or loose change? We will take any and all donations off your hands and use them ONLY for this project. We can also use your time. We are starting this project on Tuesday July 15th 2008 10:30 AM and will continue every Tuesday morning starting at 10:30 AM. If we have enough response, we will add an evening class for those of you who cannot make it during the day. Most of us are fortunate not to need this service and we hope you will want to give thanks by helping us help someone else!
